a note on notes
keeping proper handwritten notes can be a very real advantage both for keeping track of things as they happen, but also logging pictures, evidence and occurances. Police and security both use occurance books and follow a simple format that leaves no blank spaces. (so information cant be entered later or changed)
I tried those cheap spiral bound notebooks but they dont last and come apart too easily. You can pick up reporter's notebooks (that's their proper name) at most of the big chain bookstores. Mine is made by Moleskin. They run about $16 up here in Canada and well worth the investment.
Trust me, I use one at work as well and police notice when you refer to your notes and it looks similar to what they do. their more inclined to beleive your notes that way and it does look impressive in a way.
low tech but easy to use, refer too, and directly access information when needed.

This is a really good way to if nothing else at least look legit in the eyes of the authorities and if your notes are accurate you can use them to prove anything in court even if needed.
First thing I was told when I took my security guard course and cops I've talked to agree.
